Giant Tiger Prawn

What is a Giant Tiger Prawn?

Penaeus monodon is native to the Indo-West Pacific oceans. Giant tiger prawn was introduced to the United States accidentally through commercial farming and intentionally by a research facility.

Concern exists in the shrimping industry where the non-native species will increase competition for food and habitat resources, predation, and transmission of disease among local shrimp species as well as possible other marine species. Occurrences in the southeast and Gulf Coast in US.
